Overview

This key vacancy within the GDB group at Sony Music is dedicated to the operational digital business relationships with Sony Music Entertainment (SME) Europe and Africa and its digital retail partners.  The department sits within Global Digital Operations and oversees the commercial digital content distribution activities for Sony Music Entertainment, providing an essential function in developing the Sony Music Entertainment digital content business. The position consists of being an expert in digital workflows and content exploitation capabilities and using this knowledge to advise Sony Music local operational teams in their day-to-day digital operations. Strong leadership, vision, and oversight within the areas of digital distribution, content fulfillment, and commercial management are key aspects of the role and form part of both day-to-day operations and large-scale, evolutionary projects. 

Responsibilities

  • Be dedicated point of contact for SME local labels/affiliates; drive relationship improvements, operational efficiencies, and enhancements
  • Manage day-to-day digital operations support for SME local labels/affiliates
  • Work closely with Sony Music Global operations regional teams in New York and Hong Kong to ensure coordination across technical, operational, account management, and development activities 
  • Provide oversight for the monitoring of digital distribution of SME frontline and catalogue content, ensuring business-oriented communication to Sony Music labels about the status of their digital content operations and delivery 
  • Act as an advocate for SME Business and Operations teams, representing Sony Music’s business needs.
  • Travel as necessary to support responsibilities and ensure successful development of relationships with SME
  • Be a leader of process definition and best practices; contribute to educational materials and informational portals; own training needs for local labels; be an expert in end-to-end process understanding 
  • Utilise operational expertise and knowledge to trouble-shoot day-to-day issues, provide advice to SME business units, and create analysis for stakeholders as required 
  • Contribute towards department projects and initiatives—identify ideas, implement tasks, and perform project deliverables 
  • Work collaboratively with and lead initiatives amongst cross-department internal and external teams 
  • Contribute to department and team initiatives, e.g. creation and update of Standard Operating Procedures documentation and Global Digital Operations department process mapping 
  • Pursuit of personal development and skills-building within the course of daily business and longer-term projects

Person Specifications

Essential

  • Experience with digital content preparation and delivery processes 
  • Understanding of digital workflows 
  • Experience of account management/client operations roles with primary focus on customer service and digital best practice within a digital media environment 
  • Understanding of the digital media marketplace and types of consumer services available 
  • Comfortable managing accounts and proven experience building strong client/partner relationships 
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving digital content/media issues as part of a release, content management, production, digital operations, or distribution workflow 
  • Strong technical and computer skills, especially MS Office suite 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to communicate complex processes to non-technical staff 
  • Ability to think through complex problems and suggest solutions 
  • Highly organised with ability to multi-task while remaining calm under pressure 
  • Ability to prioritise workload, goals, targets, and time 
  • Track record of managing many different needs and requirements at once, particularly into projects/initiatives

Preferred

  • Prior working experiences with digital technology companies 
  • Experience of the music industry 
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent work experience 
  • Other language skills desirable 
  • Experience in digital media operations, particularly in the music industry 
  • Understanding of XML and technical digital delivery mechanisms 
  • Advanced stakeholder development and management skills; ability to deploy strong influencing skills with stakeholders 
  • Experience dealing with political nuances across internal and external stakeholders 
  • Advanced presentation skills
